List of Casio ROM Packs

<-- Back to the Casio ROM Packs Page

Below is a partial list of Casio ROM Packs. Information in this list was obtained from a multitude of sources including auction listings and various Web sites, so is probably not completely accurate, and is almost certainly incomplete. (I do not own all of the ROM Packs on this list.)

This list focusses on International ROM Packs, i.e. those that were sold outside of Japan. There are a huge number of Japanese ROM Packs which, to the best of my knowledge, were only ever sold in the Japanese market - Sourcream has put together a much better list of Japanese ROM Packs, which is more comprehensive than my list.

Casio were very kind to future collectors, and assigned each ROM pack a unique 3-digit number, prefixed "RO-". Some Japanese releases also have a single-letter suffix, the significance of which is unknown, but in most cases seems to be the first letter of the English translation of the pack title.

There are some tantalising gaps in the numbering: RO-202, RO-203 and RO-267 are conspicuous by their absence from the list.

It has been suggested that RO-267 was not released as a ROM Pack because the ROM was instead embedded in the Casio EP-20 Muppets keyboard. Although I cannot verify this, it seems a plausible explanation for the absence of RO-267.

As for the missing RO-202 and RO-203, the best explanation I can come up with is that these were planned, and advertised, but unreleased.

Here comes the list (last updated: 30th December 2021. As of this update, there are 168 known unique ROM Packs, of which 104 are believed to have been sold only in Japan. )

Some of the songs on this pack are not as I remember from my childhood. "The Alphabet Song" is basically "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" slightly modified to make it fit a recitation of the alphabet, while "Ten Little Indians" I know better as "Michael Finnegan". The tune called "Mary Had a Little Lamb" is "Merrily We Roll Along". I have never heard "Mary Had a Little Lamb" sung to this tune - I only ever knew it as a rhyme.

RO-301, RO-302 and RO-303 often seem to appear together, and usually with a PT-50 or MT-800 Keyboard. I suspect they were often sold as a bundle, along with either of those keyboards.

The Japanese version of this pack is titled "Easy Listening"
RO-302RO-302Latin1. Amor

13. An Old Fashioned Love Song
14. Ben
15. Nadia's Theme
16. The Diary
17. Beyond the Reef
The tune list on the pack label is in the wrong order. Tune 1 is actually "Top Of The World" while Tune 10 is "A Time For Us". The accompanying booklet lists the tunes in the correct order.

The list at WarrantyVoid also gives an additional tune 14. Call Me (Theme From "American Gigolo") which is not present on my example.

The Japanese version of RO-303 is called "Easy Listening [2]".

The earlier (1984) edition of this pack is labelled "Jazz Standards" while the later (1986) edition is "Great Standards." There are apparently no other differences between the editions.

4. Cover Girl
This ROM was bundled with a CT-840 keyboard. It is the only ROM I have seen that was published by "Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation" (apart from RO-560 and RO-282, which seem to be exactly the same).
RO-560RO-560New Kids on the Block Greatest Hits1. Step By Step
2. (You've Got It) The Right Stuff
3. I'll Be Loving You (Forever)
4. Cover Girl
Bundled with a CT-840 keyboard.
Seems to be exactly the same as RO-559 and RO-282.

"Clone" ROM Packs

These ROM Packs were bundled with "clones" of Casio keyboards, sold under different brand names. Usually the word "Casio" is just replaced with a different brand name; only the Liwaco ROM uses a redesigned label. I assume these rebranded ROMs are electronically identical to their Casio counterparts, and only the label is different.

I have never seen any rebranded ROM Packs other than those that were bundled with the rebranded keyboards. Were there any?

The Liwaco ROM can be used in Casio keyboards, and Casio ROMs can be used in the Liwaco LW-80.
Sonnet ROM PackSonnet ROM PackWorld Songs1. Unterlanders Heimweh
2. Greensleeves

4. Old Folks and Home
Spotted this for sale on eBay US. It was being sold together with a bundle of normal Casio keyboards.
This appears to be a clone of RO-551, presumably bundled with some rebadged keyboard, although I can find no other information about the "Sonnet" brand.

"Vapourware" ROM Packs

Some early promotional material from Casio mentioned two additional ROM Packs, entitled "Movie Themes" and "Rock On," but the RO-numbers for these packs were never given. I have never seen any other references to these two ROM Packs anywhere, which leads me to believe that they were planned (and possibly even created) but never actually released. My guess is that they were originally intended to be RO-202 and RO-203, but for some reason they never made it to market.

The tune lists below are as given in the promotional leaflets.

When I won this pack on eBay, the seller seemed reluctant to actually send it to me, and required some persuasion. When it arrived, I discovered why - it was missing its Zebra strip and metal latch (neither was mentioned in the listing). I cannibalised a spare RO-551 to make this into a fully-working, complete ROM pack.
